We have imported a variety of 100% hand-embroidered tapestry panels from South Africa. These panels were purchased from a local collective called Kaross. To quote one of the collective's publications "Kaross is the embodiment of a passion for colour, for the tactile and for the culture of its people." Kaross provides a good living for the over 900 members of the Tsonga and Shangaan women that participate in this cooperative effort. We believe that we are the only importers of these beautiful items into the United States.
The hand-embroidery takes many forms — wall hangings, pillow covers, place mats and table covers. Each and every one will add color and excitement to any décor.
"The Shangaan people culturally and traditionally have a strong passion for embroidery, for colour, the decorative, the fashionable and the imaginary." The Shangaan people are part of the larger linguistic group called the Tsonga.
Since we buy directly from the woman's collective virtually all of the money we spend in South Africa goes to the women producing these fantastic products. Our corporation in South Africa ships directly to us therefore reducing costs even further.
